Space Heating Fire Safety
Heating equipment is a leading cause of fires and injuries within residential and commercial spaces. It’s important for those who use these products to practice good fire prevention strategies. Use the checklist below to help prevent a fire from occurring:
- Make sure to turn off all space heaters or plug in warming devices when leaving the room, going outside of your home or going to bed.
- Keep flammable items and children 3 feet away from any heat sources. This includes space heaters, fire places and radiators.m
- Plug in only one heat producing product into an electrical outlet at a time. This includes products like warming blankets and heating pads.
- Never use an oven to heat your space.
- For fire places, make sure that your chimney and vents are cleaned once a year.
- Install and test proper smoke alarms or carbon monoxide alarms.
- Keep a fire extinguisher in your home at all times.
